The S5 sharpener system was designed to simply and effectively solve the problem of sharpening scissors. It was designed and constructed to sharpen metal scissors that have flat blades with straight or convex edges. It was not designed to sharpen any other cutting or working tool, and use of this sharpener for those purposes is forbidden.

The sharpening wheel is coated in . There are two fixed reference surfaces on the guide to create different angles of the edge of the blades.

A connection for the vacuum cleaner tube that removes most airborne contamination is located on the back side.
